Frequently Asked Questions Q. This depends on several factors; each time you use your toilet the trip lever, flapper, and fill valve are operated. You will find, however, that the flapper and fill valve are the parts most exposed to water and will be the first ones to wear out in most cases. That depends on a number of variables and which parts. Water quality is one of the major factors. If your water source is heavily chlorinated then many parts won’t last long.

No Credit Card Required 1. A gray water tank collects the water that goes down the drain of your RV shower and sinks. It is the presence of soap residue and dirt that give this waste its name and gray-ish look. However, we will not be discussing RV gray water tanks in this piece. The black water tank or RV waste tank collects both liquids and solids, so caring for it is a bit different than your gray tank.
In addition to human waste, the RV black tank also collects water used to flush the toilet, and of course, toilet paper. Well, think of your toilet at home. First, it keeps odors from permeating your living space, and second, having water in the bowl first, helps make sure any solids that enter the bowl can move along without sticking. You can also purchase in packet form, like the Walex Bio-Pak , available in a variety of styles and scents.
A holding tank chemical is an environmentally-safe liquid, that is added to the RV black water tank, to help break down waste and tissue, as well as to help control odors that build up in the tank.

December The purpose of this site is to describe the process involved with obtaining and installing a high capacity above 1. High capacity toilets are desirable for a variety of reasons, including more complete exchange of water in the basin, more effective cleaning of the sides of the basin, and in the case of washdown toilets, a smaller fouling region on sides of the basin and often a wider drain valve that is less likely to clog.
I am neither a plumber, nor a lawyer, so consult one of each before attempting anything described on this page. This page constitutes neither legal advice, nor plumbing advice, as I am not qualified to dispense either one. I used Home Depot part numbers on the shower page. So, in the interest of free market competition, I’m using Ace part numbers below.
Line your toilet up with the mounting flange and then bolt the toilet down while making sure not to over tighten the bolts as this could crack the toilet. Once you have got it bolted down, go ahead and hook your water supply lines back up and turn you water on to flush it so that you can check for any leaks.

Today, they are widely known as “macerating toilets,” or more commonly, “upflush toilets,” but Saniflo invented, then perfected, the concept. Traditionally, toilets flush gravitationally, letting the water flow down, beneath the toilet, then to your stack. The Saniflo toilet system discharges out the back of the commode, and into a macerator, which is sitting inside a pump.
The pump then pumps the ground sewage up through PVC pipe, right to your existing stack. The benefit is that you can build a bathroom anywhere for a fraction of the cost of installing pipes. Saniflo also built their toilet system as true DIY installation with the goal of a four-hour installation. But does this really work? There are five main Saniflo toilets that make up the bulk of units in the market today:

Doorless entry[ edit ] Modern public toilets may be designed with a labyrinth entrance doorless entry , which prevents the spread of disease that might otherwise occur when coming in contact with a door. Doorless entry provides visual privacy while simultaneously offering a measure of security by allowing the passage of sound. Doorless entry also helps deter vandalism; fewer audible clues to another person entering discourages some vandals.
Doorless entry may also be achieved simply by keeping an existing door propped open, closed only when necessary.

So I have found myself looking for tips on how to keep a toilet clean without using those blue water chemical tank things. So here is what I have found so far. It actually put a dent in the rust ring with out me even washing the toilet! A small bottle of vinegar! If you poke a hole into a bottle of vinegar and then put the whole bottle into your toilet tank the vinegar will prevent a toilet ring from forming and also use less water with every flush!
This idea has worked for some but not for others. In the comment section there is a discussion about alternative ideas and possibilites. If you drop a denture cleaning tab into the toilet before bed and then scrub the toilet in the morning it will be sparkly clean. Alternatively you can drop the denture cleaning tab into the back of the tank if you want it to clean when you flush.
Wet dry sand paper works really well for scrubbing stubborn stains! Do not use this on any of your other bathroom surfaces however as it will scratch the surface.
